Come NHL offseason, the New Jersey Devils will be searching for a new coach. Who are some of the non-NHL coaches they could look at?
After Lindy Ruff’s release, the New Jersey Devils have a tonne of good coaching alternatives, but maybe they should look further outside the NHL for their next head coach. For that leader to merit a thorough examination, they do not have to be an NHL head coach or assistant right now.
Alternatively, the Devils can go outside of the NHL for their next head coach, since there are a few that are currently or have just returned from abroad. While they will put a number of current NHL names on their shortlist and give current interim coach Travis Green a chance, New Jersey’s priority will be to find a coach who will be the best match for their young, talented hockey team.

This season, New Jersey’s record and point total might be subpar, or at least lower than many fans had anticipated before the puck dropped back in mid-October. In addition, they have a great player in Jack Hughes, who is still very young and hasn’t even reached the peak of his abilities, and a solid group of backup players that includes, among others, Jesper Bratt, Timo Meier, Nico Hischier, Alexander Holtz, Dawson Mercer, John Marino, Jonas Siegenthaler, and Luke Hughes.
Having said that, the Devils should have no trouble luring in head coaching prospects, particularly if they can turn things around in the upcoming season. The Devils shouldn’t be in a rush to find their next coach, having removed Ruff in early March. As a result, they have every reason to investigate the AHL and other professional leagues across the globe.
