Following Alabama’s crushing defeat at the hands of Florida, Nate Oats updates the injury report.
Tuesday night marked the comeback from a concussion for guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr., giving Alabama basketball a break. Ironically, though, the Tide might have lost another guard to harm.
Rylan Griffen hit a Gator with 4:15 left, trailing Florida by 20 points, and remained on the ground. Head coach Nate Oats received a technical penalty for disputing the absence of a call, expressing his dissatisfaction with the field goal discrepancy after the game.
“Griffen is suffering from a calf injury. In the morning, it will undergo an MRI. I’m not sure what it may be—a strain, perhaps. I believed he was struck and knocked out. Both people were running after what they believed to be a loose ball, according to Oats.
Griffen played 25 minutes (minus 18, a team low) and scored three points on 1 for 4 shooting, four rebounds, and a steal. When he was being helped off the floor, he didn’t seem to put much weight on his right leg.
16th of November Alabama (20-10, 12-5 SEC) suffered a 105-87 loss in their first conference back-to-back in two years. Sam Walters took his place, but he fouled out.
Though the two only managed four points on 2 of 9 shooting against the Gators, Alabama benefited from the play of freshmen guards Davin Cosby and Walters, who are still recovering from a concussion that was discovered following UA’s victory over Florida last week. If Alabama hopes to go far, both must improve against Arkansas on Saturday and in the impending conference tournament.
He took a positive and constructive step. In an effort to bring him back into playing form so he can play more and more going forward, we’re giving him some game repetitions,” Oats stated.
Wrightsell only managed two points in the first half of eight minutes. Griffen was the team’s second- and fifth-most scoring player going into Tuesday, averaging 26.3 minutes and 9.0 points per contest.
