LONDON (AP) — Injuries to Harry Maguire, Kyle Walker, and Sam Johnstone have forced them out of England’s lineup for Tuesday’s friendly encounter against Belgium.

At Wembley, Brazil defeated England 1-0 on Saturday thanks to a late goal from teenager Endrick, handing Gareth Southgate’s team its first loss in fifteen months.

That encounter saw Walker and Maguire start, but before England’s match against Belgium at Wembley, both defenders—as well as backup goalkeeper Johnstone—left the England camp due to injuries. As he experimented ahead of Euro 2024, Gareth Southgate was happy with England’s performance in the loss to Brazil and hailed his three debutantes. This injury-plagued team’s match at Wembley on Saturday resulted in the hosts’ first loss since they were eliminated by France in the World Cup quarterfinals fifteen months prior.
James Trafford, the uncapped goalkeeper for Burnley, and Rico Lewis, the defender for Manchester City, who made his debut against North Macedonia in November, were promoted from the under-21 group to the senior squad.
