Aston Villa: Unai Emery’s £90k-p/w dud free to leave immediately
The Midlands outfit have given one of their senior players the green light to complete an imminent exit.
Aston Villa have informed a member of their first-team squad that he is free to go today, according to a new report, and the club are trying to make a late move to capture his services.
How has Aston Villa begun the season?
In the Premier League, Unai Emery’s side has had a mixed start to the season, currently sitting tenth in the table with six points, having scored two wins but also suffering the same number of defeats in their first four games.
After signing Youri Tielemans, Pau Torres, Moussa Diaby, Nicolo Zaniolo, and Clement Lenglet via Transfermarkt during the summer transfer window, the excellent competition for places has pushed some of the existing players further out of the picture, including Leander Dendoncker.
The Belgium international has only made 22 appearances since signing from Wolves last summer, and he has yet to play in the Premier League this season, and his position at the bottom of the pecking order has already led to speculation about his departure.
Fabrizio Romano earlier reported that the Midlands club were open to offers for the defensive midfielder, despite being regarded by the boss, and that a departure had previously failed to materialise.
Is Leander Dendoncker on his way out of Aston Villa?
According to Football Insider, Fenerbahce are “preparing a last-ditch move” for Dendoncker, who has been told by Aston Villa chiefs that he has no long-term future at the club.
The transfer market in Turkey expires on Friday, September 15, and the player’s admirers have added him to a shortlist of options, with the hierarchy open to either a loan or permanent exit.
The Super Lig club has already held preliminary conversations with their target’s camp, and while no official offer has been made, it has been said that a “deal is possible” before the end of play this evening.
Aston Villa just added Dendoncker to their Premier League 25-man squad for the remainder of the season, however due to him being a “rash” player, as some of the media have described him, and being on the fringes of the action, the board would be wise to let him go
According to WhoScored, the Wasserman client was Emery’s overall 21st best-performing player out of 26 team members last season, as well as 13th defensively, while he’s also failed to make an impression at the other end of the pitch, recording zero goals or assists since his arrival.
Furthermore, Passendale’s native, who is sponsored by Nike, currently earns £90,000 per week, which is more than Ollie Watkins and Douglas Luiz, according to Capology, so Villa bosses need to get him off their wage bill as soon as possible and use this money to generate funds for bringing in potential fresh faces in the new year.
