For certain players, such as defensive end Danielle Hunter, free agency is about more than just money.
Free agency defensive end was reportedly offered more money by the Colts than by the team he signed with.
This offseason, Hunter inked a fantastic two-year, $49 million contract with the Houston Texans. However, in order to sign with Houston, Hunter declined a bigger offer from the Indianapolis Colts, according to ESPN’s Stephen Holder.
“A team source claims that the Colts made a sincere effort to sign free agent pass-rusher Danielle Hunter from the Vikings, even offering him a two-year, $49 million ($48 million guaranteed) contract, which was ultimately accepted by the Houston Texans. However, the Colts needed to make some judgements on their own free agents before they took advantage of alternatives following that fruitless pursuit and after weighing other possible actions.”
The heart is at home.
Hunter signed with the Texans because he was naturally eager to continue his career in his hometown of Katy, Texas, which is located outside of Houston.
At his Texans press conference, Hunter remarked, “It’s an honour to be able to come back and play in front of my family and all of the people I grew up with. It will be fun [for them] to be able to come to a game and see me play.”
Hunter is excited to play for the Texans under head coach DeMeco Ryans, who was a significant defensive player in his playing days, in addition to going back home to play.
“I like that he understands the players; he understands players and having them be able to go out there and play for each other as one unit,” Hunter said regarding Ryans. “He brings in the family aspect of playing football.”
It’s difficult to blame a person for wanting to go back home and play for his family and friends. It’s also encouraging to discover that some gamers aren’t solely motivated by money when they play the game. Although Hunter would have looked great in a Colts uniform, Indianapolis supporters shouldn’t focus too much on his choice.
