The 40-year-old guy became ill during Sunday’s half-marathon event through the city, and he was treated medically.
The runner, who has not been identified, was one of about 30,000 participants in the race on Sunday.
The Great Run Company claimed that the man passed away later in the hospital and that they were sending their “sincere condolences to the participant’s family and friends.”
‘Deep sadness’
The spokesperson added the company would not be releasing any further details.
Sunday’s event also included a 10k (6.2mile) run.
The event, which was broadcast live on BBC One, is a key fixture in the city’s calendar, raising funds for several charities.
It took place ahead of Sunday’s victory parade for Premier League champions Manchester City.
