NFC East ‘Hate’: Commanders Rivals Joust Over Saquon Barkley – ‘We Got Your Best Player!’
As the Washington Commanders know well, the NFC East is well-known for its in-the-division “sports hate.”
Usually, it’s the fans who do much of the taunting.
But sometimes – as is the case now between the Giants and the Eagles – it’s the coach.
“Sometimes you see Giants fans around here,” Philadelphia coach Nick Sirianni said. “They give me a good ‘Go Giants’ and I typically let it go. But if the guy gets me good enough, I usually say, ‘You know, we got your best player.’”
Ah. That would be former New York running back Saquon Barkley, who exited the Big Apple and signed with Philly as he signed a three-year, $37.75 million deal with in March.
What will that do for Barkley? The Eagles are surely going to be better than the Giants. … and facing off against their former No. 2 overall pick twice per year might be painful.
And yeah, the Commanders might feel that pain twice a year as well.
“Sports hate” him though you might, Sirianni is a sort of NFC East throwback due to his trash-talking nature. Think George Allen in D.C. Think Buddy Ryan in Philly. Think Jimmy Johnson with the Dallas Cowboys.
