Daniel Farke reveals Leeds United’s new injury concerns as Jamie Shackleton’s frustration emerges
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has revealed that Jamie Shackleton has been moved to the bench against Millwall this weekend partly due to injury problems.
Shackleton was named among The Den’s replacements and played no role when Leeds ran out
Farke did not want this versatile midfielder to aggravate his shoulder injury, so he decided to leave him out.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday [September 19] before facing Hull City, Farke told reporters, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post:
“We want Jamie to stay fresh and ready for the upcoming matches.
“We also didn’t want to risk his shoulder.
“It’s part of my job. This is the hardest part about being a soccer coach. You have to disappoint the players, everyone wants to be in the team.
Group depth
With the quick change in fixtures between the win at Millwall and the trip to Hull City three days later, it remains to be seen whether Shackleton will be involved midweek.
His inclusion in the south London squad suggests he will be used if necessary against fierce rivals Leeds.
Shackleton impressed at Leeds in the early stages of the campaign in a variety of positions, leading to speculation that he could even be offered a new contract at Elland Road [
Squad depth will be huge for Farke this season if Leeds are serious about challenging for promotion and having a fit Shackleton back to join the team against Hull will be a huge boost.
But with Junior Firpo and Djed Spence already sidelined, Farke doesn’t need to unnecessarily risk Shackleton’s fitness unless he’s 100% ready to play the role.
In other Leeds United news, Farke has confirmed three players will miss the game against Hull.
