I will make changes in the Carabao Cup despite difficultires
Cole Palmer is set to make his official debut at Stamford Bridge after three good appearances from the Chelsea bench in the Premier League.
Newly debuted goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic is expected to replace No. 1 Robert Sanchez on Wednesday night.
Armando Broja could also start his return from injury when he came off the bench in the 1-0 home loss to Aston Villa.
Mauricio Pochettino was delighted with the return of the Albanian international striker when Nicolas Jackson missed in front of goal. He said after Sunday’s match:
“It’s nice to see Broja again after 9 or 10 months.
“It gives us the opportunity to have different options and those possibilities are good for the team. But he also needs to build his confidence.
However, Jackson was still present despite receiving his fifth yellow card in six Premier League matches. He will serve his suspension against Fulham on Monday, but Malo Gusto is suspended for three matches in all competitions after receiving a straight red card for serious misconduct this weekend.
With Reece James also injured, Axel Disasi will play at right-back for the first time until he returns. The benefit of having an extra day of recovery against Fulham is likely to see the defender’s workload increase as the selection crisis unfolds. Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, Carney Chukwuemeka, Trevoh Chalobah and Marcus Bettinelli are all injured.
Pochettino’s ability to rotate his squad is limited by nine absentees, but Ben Chilwell, Lesley Ugochukwu, Marc Cucurella and Noni Madueke could all be in the starting line-up.
The selection of Ugochukwu will likely give Enzo a chance to get a well-deserved rest.
Striker Deivid Washington, 18, could be among the substitutes and could make his debut after scoring against Manchester City U21s in their recent Premier League 2 win.
Expected Chelsea lineup:
Petrovich; Disasi, Thiago Silva, Colwill, Cucurella; Ugochukwu, Gallagher; Madueke, Palmer, Chilwell; Jackson
Injury:
James, Lavia, Nkunku, Chukwuemeka, Chalobah, Badiashile, W. Fofana, Bettinelli
