Barcelona receive unexpected financial boost after Nico Gonzalez transfer….
With Nico Gonzalez completing a move to a sputtering Manchester City, desperate for a spark of vigor, Barcelona will benefit $12 million as part of a 20% sell-on clause from his previous transfer. The move materialized rather quickly, but it’s one that made a lot of sense for both clubs.
Barca president Joan Laporta confirmed to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo that he was awaiting updates from sporting director Deco, fueling speculation about a potential unexpected transfer. However, all signs point to the windfall stemming from Nico’s move to the Premier League champions.
In addition to the funds received from Nico’s transfer, Barcelona has completed two other sales that contribute to their financial restructuring. Young winger Estanis Pedrola has been transferred to Bologna following his loan spell at Sampdoria for a fee close to $2 million. Meanwhile, promising midfielder Unai Hernandez has been sold to Al-Ittihad for $4.67 million.
