Commanders LB Jamin Davis Schedules Final Surgery of the Season

Jamin Davis, who has been a consistent starter since the middle of his rookie season, will not play his third NFL season through to the conclusion. According to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post, the Commanders linebacker will have surgery that will require him to be sidelined for an early conclusion.

Davis had a difficult rookie season, but he has improved in the last two. He was a major factor in Jack Del Rio’s defense placing in the top 10 the previous season. In 2022, Pro Football Focus ranked Davis just outside the top 40, and this year, they have him in that range once more. The off-ball linebacker will finish this season with 89 stops and three sacks after posting a 104-tackle, three-sack campaign the previous year. Davis was expected to duplicate that performance. This season, Davis has added two forced fumbles.

The last two seasons have seen Davis perform better than he did during his rookie campaign. His defense ranking in the top 10 last year was largely due to him. Davis is ranked in the range of 40 to 45 by Pro Football Focus in 2022 and again this year. This off-ball linebacker is expected to finish the season with 89 stops and three sacks after posting a 104-tackle, three-sack campaign the previous year. The season has seen Davis add two forced fumbles.

This indicates that in 2024 Davis will start his contract year. This season, Washington let Cole Holcomb go and signed former Seahawk Cody Barton in his place. Behind the Barton-Davis tandem, David Mayo, former Cowboy Jabril Cox, and Khaleke Hudson, a former fifth-round pick, are in position as depth players. Jhabvala predicts that Mayo will replace Davis as the starting lineup.
