It looks like Chiefs vs. Dolphins will be among the coldest NFL games ever, which could be detrimental to Miami.

With less than four minutes left in regulation, the Miami Dolphins led the Tennessee Titans 27-13 as Week 14 of the 2023 NFL regular season came to an end. In the event of a victory, the Dolphins’ record would have increased to 10-3, giving them a three-game advantage over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East. Even if everything had gone according to plan for the remainder of the season, that victory would have been sufficient for the Dolphins to eventually secure the division, meaning that Miami’s season-ending loss to the Bills was meaningless.

The Dolphins would have received a home playoff game as well.

Rather, Miami blew that lead, making history as the first squad to do so with less than three minutes left—a feat not accomplished since 2017. 582 teams in a similar circumstance had won before. The Dolphins were the first team to lose during that time frame.

As if that weren’t awful enough, the Dolphins are about to become part of even more NFL history when they travel to Arrowhead Stadium.

Based on current forecasts, Saturday night’s low is expected to be -3 degrees. This weekend at Arrowhead will feel much colder due to the anticipated wind chill.

This puts this NFL playoff game on course to be among the coldest ever. The 1967 NFL Championship Game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers, known as the “Ice Bowl,” is still the coldest NFL game ever played. There was a wind chill of -48 degrees and temperatures of -13 degrees during that game.
