A rival in the AL East, the Boston Red Sox are predicted to “be outbid” by the New York Mets for their All-Star outfielder.
This winter’s MLB free agency class has seen the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets both miss out on their top targets. The Red Sox and Mets are supposedly in a close competition for the best outfield player, though, with a number of All-Star hitters still available on the open market.
Ever since Alex Verdugo was traded to the New York Yankees, Boston has been in need of an outfielder. Although some of the more expensive options, such as Cody Bellinger, appear to be out of the picture, Boston still has access to a number of excellent outfield options thanks to the strength of this year’s free-agent class.
Regarding New York, the Mets have taken a different turn as a result of their unsuccessful chase of Yoshinobu Yamamoto. New York is more interested in second-tier players than in shelling out top cash for an impact player in their 30s. Increasing the starting lineup has become essential since the Mets’ rotation is not expected to be good the following season.
